&lt;br /&gt;
# Perform a base install of Windows 7 on a machine&lt;br /&gt;
# On completion of the install, follow the prompts to create a user (eg Default-User)&lt;br /&gt;
# Log in and enable the Administrator account (and give it a password)&lt;br /&gt;
# Log off, and log back in as Administrator&lt;br /&gt;
# Install all required applications, for example...&lt;br /&gt;
#* Anti-virus&lt;br /&gt;
#* Office&lt;br /&gt;
#* Windows Updates&lt;br /&gt;
# Restart the machine and log back in as the user (eg Default-User)&lt;br /&gt;
# Customise the profile, for example...&lt;br /&gt;
#* Background&lt;br /&gt;
#* Login screen&lt;br /&gt;
#* Screensaver&lt;br /&gt;
#* Internet Explorer home page and favourites&lt;br /&gt;
# Save and apply the customised theme as the new default&lt;br /&gt;
## Right-click over the desktop and select &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Personalization&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
## Right-click over the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Unsaved Theme&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and select &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Save theme for sharing&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
## Save the file (eg as Default-Theme to C:\Temp)&lt;br /&gt;
## Click on another theme, so you can then right-click over your customised theme and select &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Delete theme&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
## Locate the saved theme and double-click to apply as default theme&lt;br /&gt;
# Perform a final tidy up (prior to sysprepping), remove anything you don&amp;#039;t want on the final image&lt;br /&gt;
#* Delete any temporary files&lt;br /&gt;
#* Delete unnecessary user accounts/profiles&lt;br /&gt;
# Restart the PC and log back in as Administrator&lt;br /&gt;
# Make user profile (eg Default-User) the default&lt;br /&gt;
## Make all files viewable&lt;br /&gt;
### In Explorer, go to &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Organize | Folder and search options&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, and then the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;View&amp;#039;&amp;#039; tab&lt;br /&gt;
###* Check &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Show hidden files, folders, and drives&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
###* Untick &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Hide protected operating system files&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
### Click on &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Apply&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
## Rename &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;C:\Users\Default&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt; to &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;Default.orig&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
## Copy the new profile (eg &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;C:\Users\Default-User&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;) to &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;C:\Users\Default&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
## Update NTUSER.DAT&lt;br /&gt;
### Start regedit, select &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;HKEY_USERS&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;, then go to &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;File | Load Hive&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
### Open &amp;lt;code&amp;gt; C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;, and profile a (temporary) name (eg Default-Profile)&lt;br /&gt;
### Navigate to &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;HKEY_USERS\Default-Profile\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
### Delete all values except...&lt;br /&gt;
###* &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;(Default)&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
###* &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;!Do not use this registry key&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
### Select &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;Default-Profile&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt; and go to &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;File | Export...&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and save (eg &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;C:\Temp\Default-Profile&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;)&lt;br /&gt;
### Edit the file in Notepad, and perform a Find and Replace, replacing the user (eg &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;Default-User&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;) with &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;Default&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
### Save the file, and merge (double-click on file), then delete it&lt;br /&gt;
### In regedit, ensure Default-Profile is selected and go to &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;File | Unload Hive...&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
# Delete any files in &amp;lt;code&amp;gt;C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Protect&amp;lt;/code&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

The machine is now ready for Sysprep and cloning, to Sysprep open a command prompt and type...&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;pre&amp;gt;cd C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep&lt;br /&gt;
sysprep /oobe /generalize /reboot&amp;lt;/pre&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
...when the machine reboots it needs to boot into the clone or image taking software.&lt;br /&gt;
